It had been almost three weeks since Lexi had seen Will. To tell the truth, she was kind of avoiding him. Not that she didn't want to be around him. She loved his company and if she hadn't known him for such a short time, she'd probably say she loved him. But things were weird. She'd been feeling kind of strange lately and she had a feeling she knew exactly why. Her period was two weeks late. That wasn't exactly a good thing. She was also feeling nauseous more often than not. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what those symptoms were pointing to.

Even though she was pretty determined to stay away from Will at this point, Lexi couldn't just spend all of her time in her apartment or at the studio and the opera house. It didn't work like that. She'd go utterly crazy if she never went anywhere. Today, she'd decided to take solace in literature. She sat on the floor between two aisles of books at Barnes and Noble. A copy of Shakespeare's greatest works was on her lap and she was devouring her favorite play, Much Ado About Nothing. She'd become so lost in the literature that she had quite forgotten the possibility of running into Will. In fact, she completely failed to notice the sounds of footsteps. She had a habit of forgetting to notice the world around her.

Will had called her, had kept in touch. they'd had a great time the last time they were together, and then.... she just stopped calling. She didn't stop by work or answer his messages. he figured there were two options, something terrible had happened to her, or she suddenly hated him, or realized he was a stranger or... Okay, that was more than two.

He'd just gotten off work and he figured he'd go find something good to read, to get out of his head for a minute.

That's when he saw her, sitting and reading like nothing were out of the ordinary. Will couldn't help but walk towards her, it was like a magnet, pulling him in. But what to say to her?

It wasn't the footsteps she noticed. It was the shadow. Lexi felt her heart freeze for a moment and the breath caught in her throat. Even his shadow was beautiful.

Once she'd reminded herself to breathe and calmed herself down as much as possible (which wasn't actually much at all), Lexi forced her eyes to raise so that she was gazing at Will. Lexi's trademark smile was not on her face. She supposed she looked rather afraid, which was pretty much how she felt. "Uh... hi," she offered, hastily closing the book and sliding it back onto the shelf. All at once, she stood up, feeling truly clumsy for once in her life. "How are you?" she asked, trying hard to smile. It came out weak and watery. She was pretty sure her heart wasn't beating correctly and she really didn't know what to do about it. She was feeling so out of her element that she'd even opted for jeans and an oversized tee shirt rather than her typical dress. Her long dark hair had been pulled away from her face and it wasn't hard to see the deep circles under her eyes. She hadn't done a whole lot of sleeping since she'd last seen Will.

Will was shocked by her face, sad, tried, worried. What had happened? "I think the more important question is are you alright?" he'd been worried and now, seeing her, he realized he should have been worried, she looked so upset and downtrodden, and well, terrible, as terrible as a beautiful woman was capable of looking anyway.

Will had been prepared with a snarky comment about how she was avoiding him, but her face... it killed him. And snarky comments really weren't his thing.

She'd been prepared for him to be confused and probably angry. It was a logical response. After all, she'd given him no warning or reason. She'd simply ceased to see or speak to him. Will had to be frustrated and she really didn't blame him. If situations had been reversed, she'd certainly have been angry. Then again, she figured he had a right to be worried as well. She looked like hell and she knew it. "I... guess I'm okay," Lexi lied, her eyes automatically sweeping downward and focusing on the toes of her shoes. She was a horrible liar, but she did try every now and again.

Before he had much of a chance to call her out on her poor attempt at a lie, Lexi figured she ought to offer an explanation. Not that this was really the place for it. "I... uh... we... well, we need to talk." She was well aware of the fact that that phrase usually had a very negative stigma. "Do you want to go somewhere? I mean... this is kind of... public and... well..." Another unusual experience. Lexi was at a loss for words. She only hoped she made enough sense for Will to figure out that she wanted to talk with him privately.

"Alright. Where do you want to go to talk?" His words were a little clipped. he couldn't bring himself to be his normal self. Especially not when she had blown him off for so long and now was worrying him. But he needed to know what was going on with her because she was definitely not alright, and he couldn't deal with that. She meant os much t him... even if she'd been avoiding and ignoring him. That hurt him, but seeing her face... something happened, it wasn't as out of the blue as it felt.

Lexi couldn't help but wince at his words. They were short and it made her feel a little hurt. Not that she had much reason to be. After all, she was the one who'd been avoiding him. Will had every right to be upset. "I... uh... live around the corner," she told him, not sure if it was a decent suggestion or not. Come to think of it, he might not actually want to be alone with her. She wasn't sure just how much she'd pissed him off (or hurt him as the case seems to be) by ignoring him for the last few weeks, so she didn't know if he'd be up for visiting her apartment or not. Nervously, the girl shifted on her feet, finally coming to rest with her feet in third position (I assume you know this one, Em, so I won't bother linking it).

Will nodded lightly and resisted the urge to take her hand as he normally would have done--if things were normal. Which of course, they weren't. The walk was quick and quiet, unnaturally so. They'd had no trouble with conversation before this two week break she'd created. Why though? That was what he wanted to know, why not talk to me?

She seemed nervous and that made him uneasy, just what was going on here?

She hadn't bothered driving here, so she didn't even think of giving Will the chance to take his car. She simply led the way to her house, not saying anything at all. What was she supposed to say? She couldn't really carry on as if nothing had happened. She'd ignored Will for the last couple of weeks! So she swallowed her tongue and chewed her lower lip as she led the way to the apartment building. She opened the front door of the building and led them up a couple flights of stairs before unlocking her own door and gesturing for Will to enter the apartment.

The moment they were both inside, Lexi let out a huge breath. She hadn't even realized she'd been holding her breath. "You might want to sit down," she mumbled. It was the best she could do at the moment. Most people didn't like to be standing when they received shocking news.

Her apartment was cozy, but it would have been a lot warmer if they'd walking in laughing, or smiling, or even really being on the same page, because right now they were off balance, like a scale, she knew much more than he did and the weight was off.

Will sat down as she directed, looking at her with eyes that wondered and worried about what she had to say and why she was avoiding him, a little hurt and anger in there too. Sure they didn't know each other well, but she could have at least said if she was going to leave like that. She owed him that much, didn't she? he'd tried to be a good guy, good to her... and all he got back after that day was silence. Until now.

Almost automatically, Lexi took a seat across from Will, her eyes locking on his. It took her a couple of seconds to process the emotions she saw in his eyes and she felt herself begin to tear up. Another symptom. She'd been overly emotional for the last couple of weeks. Taking a deep breath, Lexi tried to force herself not to cry. She really didn't have much of a reason to at this point. After all, Will was being his typical amazing self. Maybe not talkative, but at least giving her a chance to explain and maybe even make things right. When she opened her eyes again, though, there was that hurt staring her in the face. "God! Would you stop looking at me like that?!" she demanded, startling herself a little. She felt a hot tear slip from her eye and clumsily raked a hand across her cheek.

Her breathing became more rapid, though Lexi had learned from years of fighting off stage fright that that would only make things worse. She might as well just come out with what she wanted to say. If she didn't, she might just have a panic attack. And she'd still have to tell him what was going on. "Will... I.... I think I'm pregnant," she mumbled, her eyes fixed on the carpet. She was afraid of his reaction. Besides, saying the words out loud seemed to make things more real.

Will cracked a tiny smile at her first words. He wasn't sure why thought. Nothing was amusing, he just was trying not to look hurt, even though she'd hurt him by not calling back once in two weeks. He reached out a hand across the space between them and took her hand in his, showing her that he forgave her, he had to, but that he needed to know what was going on.


Will had no idea what to say. pregnant? Pregnant? They'd had sex twice, and she was a virgin for one of them and he had gotten her pregnant, obviously the second time. Dammit. What on earth could he say? Sorry? Or, he didn't mean to? Or what now? He just looked at her. "I...." Well it explained a lot though, no wonder she didn't want to talk to him. "I should have been more careful. I'm sorry."

Having never been in any situation even close to this, Lexi had no idea how to react. She also had no clue how to expect Will to react. Nervously, she squeezed his hand, glad that he'd actually reached out to hold hers. It helped a lot more than she would have expected. "It happens, I guess," she mumbled. What else was she supposed to say? That she was sorry, too? That she could have helped with the being careful thing? This really wasn't a wonderful sort of conversation to be having and she could feel the nausea building.

"I... uh.... I'll be right back," she managed to get out between deep breaths. All at once, Lexi jumped up and ran to the small bathroom that was just off the side of the living room. She usually kept this one clean for guests, but she happened to be far less able to control her bodily functions than usual. She hit her knees just in time, spilling whatever she might have eaten that day neatly into the toilet. At last, she flushed it, but she couldn't quite convince herself to get up. It wasn't quite fair. How was she supposed to deal with this?

Crumpling into a small little ball on the bathroom floor, Lexi felt the first hot tear slide down her cheek. Within moments, she was reduced to a sobbing little child, hugging her knees on the bathroom floor. How could sex have complicated her life so much? She was certainly going to lose her job. They couldn't have a pregnant girl as a lead ballerina. And that would just be the start of all the trouble.

Will sat there for a long time, but long after the sounds of her unpleasant trip had stopped, she still hadn't come out. His mind was reeling. They hardly really knew each other and sure he cared for her an all... but a baby? They'd be tied together forever if she decided to keep it. What then? And he certainly didn't have money to support her with, and she'd be out of a job--who could dance pregnant? And after nine months would she be on top of her game enough to get back in the game. he'd heard dancing was a tough business. He'd taken all of that away from her. Maybe it was foolish to take all the blame, obviously some of the blame was hers. Will couldn't get himself mad though at anyone but himself.

He got up and went to the bathroom. The door was open and she was lying there, curled in a ball on the floor. It made him want to cry. "Lexi..." But what could he say? He knelt behind her and put a hand on her shoulder.

She'd practically forgotten that Will was even there. Curled up on the floor, Lexi had surrendered herself to her tears. She hardly registered he'd come into the bathroom until she felt his hand on her shoulder. Against her will, she felt herself flinch. The motion drew a loud sob from her. "I'm sorry," she mumbled, dragging her hands across her face. After a couple of deep breaths, she sat up, her back resting against the tub. She tried (to no avail) to wipe away the rest of the tears and suppressed a couple more sobs.

Feeling just a little more together, Lexi hugged her knees close to her and looked up at Will. "What do we do?" she asked, her voice barely audible. Abortion wasn't an option for her. She knew that much. So she was going to keep it... At least for nine months. Then what, though?
