Will hated that she flinched, it was more painful than he would have guessed. He genuinely missed her, all of her, and the fact that he---they--- had destroyed her future, career and free will all in one moment... It ripped him up inside. What could they do? If she kept it, well then he should really marry her. Sure he loved her, but he didn't know her, not as much as most people did when they got married. But he wanted to do the right thing by her. But if she was giving it up for adoption, they didn't have to get married, but he'd certainly be willing to help her out during the whole ordeal, if she wanted to see him at all. Hell, he realized he could take it if she didn't want it, it was his too. but he didn't have the money to take care of a kid.
"Well, I guess that's up to you." he said slowly. She could decide if she was going to have it, abort it, give it up. He'd find out what she wanted first before thinking of what he wanted. Though Will liked family, he liked kids, the thought of giving their child up was almost too much. but really, the choice should be hers.

For the first time in her life, Lexi hated the fact that she had free will. She didn't want to be the one making the decision. It was too much for her. She had to decide the fate of another life. Chewing on her lower lip, Lexi forced herself to think about the possibilities. She'd long ago decided that abortion wasn't for her. But adoption. That was one she had to think about. Could she really carry a child for nine months and then just give it away? Didn't there have to be some level of bonding? Even if the kid wasn't actually alive yet, there had to be...
The more she thought about it, the more she realized she didn't think she could stand that. "I want to keep it," Lexi told him, just now aware of how sure she was. "You don't have to be there if you don't want to... I don't want to mess up your life or whatever... I just... I don't think I could really do anything else...."

Will smiled faintly and took her hand gently. "I think that's a good choice." He said. Sure he wasn't the one carrying the kid, but he helped make it and he was a family man. She already knew that after he explained the whole tree thing. "And do you really think I'd leave you alone in this? It'll be my kid too. How could I not be there? Both you and him or her are going to be part of my life." Will reasoned quietly. How could he abandon her? No good person would. And he'd already ruined her life, being there for her was not going to ruin his.
"I'll be there forever if you want me too." He said. Was he really hinting at marriage? Maybe. He just knew that he did love her, and he was going to love his kid. They had clicked rather fast, it was general philosophy that there wasn't just one person for everyone, surely Lexi could be good for him and vise versa.

She might have continued rambling forever if Will hadn't cut her off. Reluctantly, Lexi listened to him long enough to gather that he intended to stick around. She really hadn't expected much different from him. He was a genuinely good guy. At least she was pretty sure he was. So he would certainly stick around there to make sure she was okay and that this child had a decent life. As a reporter, Lexi was pretty sure he couldn't quite afford it, but at least he was willing to be there.
His next words caught her off guard. He'd be there forever? As in forever? Lexi held her breath for a moment, thinking it over. How was she supposed to respond to that? Was he just trying to be a nice guy or was that actually what he wanted? And what was he even suggesting? Did he just want to be a part of her life forever or... "Mr. Constable, it sounds like you just suggested marrying me...." Her voice was soft and breathy. She couldn't quite convince herself that he actually was, so she'd just have to rely on his answer.

Will smiled back at her a little sheepishly. Almost blushing, and he did not blush. He wanted to do the right thing by her, and how this conversation was going just proved that things could go very well between them. "I will marry you, if you'll have me. I know I don't make much, but it wouldn't be right to leave you alone in this." Will only wanted the right thing, and he wanted a family. It wasn't too much to ask was it? Maybe it was coming sooner than expected and his priest father might kill him, but what did it matter.
"I do love you, you know." He added for good measure. he didn't really expect her to say yes, but he felt he had to at least get it out there. Will might have asked anyway----just not nearly as soon as this.

In a way, she was surprised to hear that he would, in fact, marry her. After all, they both knew that they were practically strangers. But there was something there, and Lexi knew it. Will couldn't have missed it. ...Her train of thoughts stopped automatically when he told her he loved her. That wasn't the type of word people just said all the time. Well, most people didn't say it all the time, anyway. Lexi froze, her eyes widening. She couldn't do anything more than blink at him for a couple of seconds.
"I... love you, too," she answered honestly, almost surprised. "And I'll marry you... If you actually meant that..." She was speaking slowly, hesitantly. It was as if her brain was moving in slow motion. Reality was getting a little hard to process, and Lexi hoped she wasn't imagining things.

Will couldn't help but smile, even given the very difficult circumstances of the whole thing. "I was being serious. I just don't have a ring." It wasn't like he was planning to propose, but with the baby and all... it seemed the right thing to do. Beside, strangers or not, they had a strong connection, there was no use denying that. the connection was love, and in time, it would grow, it really would. Will believed that they could be happy forever. At least, he hoped so.
God what would his parents think... what would hers? But at least they were being grown up about this, and while they were young, they weren't that young. They could handle this.

Lexi couldn't fight the smile that was spreading across her face. She quickly moved to tuck her head against Will's chest where she knew it would feel comfortable and safe. She'd always been a bit of a romantic, but this was never what she would have expected. Weren't you supposed to get married before you got pregnant? But still. It felt right. For a moment, anyway. Then she felt her stomach do a little flip. "What about our parents?" she asked softly. She figured hers wouldn't be too upset. They seemed to adapt well to most things. His, on the other hand... His father was a minister. What kind of example was Will setting for the church? And they didn't know Lexi. They wouldn't know that she wasn't the kind of girl that usually got into this sort of mess... Her arms wrapped around Will in a tight and nervous hug. They were going to have to tell their families. It was sure a good thing they had each other. [/size]

Parents, well. He knew absolutely nothing about her parents, nothing at all. How would they take it? Would they hate him for it? Will was a good man, obviously, and he wasn't deserting their daughter. He was preacher's son for god sakes.
"Well, my mother will probably love you." He said. His mother was such a friendly British type, and while Brits could be sort of high and mighty, when shit happened they accepted it and moved on. besides, his mother danced a bit as a girl, bound to give Lexi a few points. "My father... he's a little more old fashioned." That really said enough.

She'd expected the bit about his father. He'd probably think Lexi was a whore or something. At the very least, she expected him to be sure that Lexi had ruined Will's life (even though it obviously took two of them to make this mess). She was glad to hear that she might not have such a hard time with his mom, though. She figured if she could win over his mother, she'd get his father to like her in time. Hopefully.
Lexi thought for a moment about her own parents. "I think mine are pretty easy to please. If they think you love me, they won't be mad or anything... I mean... They'll probably say we're rushing into things. But it's not like you're a jerk or anything, so that should be okay..." Lexi offered Will a smile that she hoped would be comforting. She was nervous enough as it was. She figured maybe he was, too, and the least she could do was try and offer some encouragement.

Will kissed her gently and smiled. "I do love you, your parents have nothing to worry about." he would agree with them that it was too fast and too sudden, but sometimes life gave you orders and you had to follow them, had to make a good thing out of a bad. Not that a baby was always bad news, just in this setting.
So the big question was, what now? he supposed he should go buy her a ring, and they should tell their parents.
