Ivy knew Robbie had to work late and she hardly knew what to do with herself. Especially now that she was in a terrible mood. her ex David had called her up saying he traced what had happened to their baby. he had wanted to keep it, wanted them to stay together. But she didn't love him, and she knew she couldn't be a mother at 17. But he called anyway, saying he got emails from the family of their baby's pictures. Ivy had yelled at him. And now she was cleaning, scrubbing her house within and inch of its life, when the phone went off again.
She didn't know the number, but she picked up anyway.
"Hello?" Ivy said into the phone.
"Miss Smithsonian?" came the voice of a woman, maybe in her thirties.
"Yes? Who is this?" Ivy asked into the phone, trying to keep her phone even. She hated telemarketers and such, and she was already mad.
"This is Caroline Brown, the adopted mother of your child."
Ivy's heart practically stopped in her chest. "Look, after we met and I told you that you could have the kid, I said I didn't want to be contacted, a closed adoption, I didn't want you to contact ---"
But the mother cut her off, "She said her first word today. It was Ivy."
Ivy sank to the couch, water welling up in her eyes. Ivy? What a random word for a baby to learn. But it twisted the knife that sat in her gut. Part of her had always wanted to keep her baby girl. But at that point in life she couldn't have. And this was making it too hard. She said nothing, but the voice on the other line kept talking.
"We have ivy growing in our yard and she pointed to it, and we told her what it was and she repeated it. She says it all the time. I thought maybe it was a sign from God. Would you like to see---"
Now Ivy interrupted. "No, no, its a closed adoption. It was supposed to be. i don't want to know anything." She said hanging up the phone and putting her face in her hands.
"Dammit."
ooc-- i realized rob couldn't hear her talking to the boyfriend bc then rob would know it wasn't his, so this is what i came up with.

Robbie was supposed to be working late, closing the bar and locking up but as it often did on busy nights, the pub was closed early when everyone started to get a little too roudy, Robbie had to break up 4 fights before the manager finally let him kick everyone out. Oh the joys of being a barman in the scummiest pub in NYC.
So he decided he'd surprise his 'girlfriend' by turning up early. He let himself into her dorm block and then into her dorm as he always did when he came here, she did the same to his apartment. He closed the door as quietly as he could and tiptoed in, stopping when he heard something that made him freeze on the spot, just out of sight, 'closed adoption'. He knew he shouldn't have but he couldn't help himself. He stood and listened to what she was saying and slowly pieced it all together. She'd had a baby, given it away and never thought to mention it? And why?
He answered that question on his own quickly and the answer he came up with wasn't one he liked all that much. The only explaination he could counger up was that the baby was his. His stomach took a flip and then dropped. He snapped himself out of it. She couldn't know that he knew, he krept the two steps back and opened the door before letting it close loudly, like he had only just arrived, before walking in, heavy footed. "Hey." was all he grunted. Usually he would have wrapped her up in his arms and kissed her or picked her up and thrown her onto the bed but he was too preoccupied to act like everything was all fine and dandy. Good thing was, this was just how he got when he was in a bad mood so she'd no doubt take it as that and leave well alone.

Ivy didn't say anything, she didn't even look up. She kept her watery eyes in her hands, not speaking until she was sure that her voice wouldn't crack. Ivy did groan however and flop over onto the couch so she was lying on it. "I'm having a terrible afternoon." She said bluntly, she sounded angry, not sad, which was much better because Ivy didn't ever let him see her sad. She looked up at him finally, hoping her eyes were dry. She knew something was bugging him, since he hadn't greeted him. "They let you out early, too many fights?" She asked sitting up and patting the spot beside her. Ivy would give him a back rub or something if he sat down, sometimes that calmed him down.
Either that or they ended up having very rough angry sex. But she wasn't sure she even wanted that. Which was weird. She had this desire to be with her toddler.
"Distract me please." She said. All this quiet was making her think too much.

Robbie nodded his head. No kidding huh? Bad day didn't quite cover it. Not that he'd been having as good one anyway but still, it had just got a hell of a lot worse. "How'd you guess?" it wasn't a rare occurance. The place got shut down on a weekly basis, either by cops or by the manager.
He dropped into the space next to him with a sigh and rubbed the bridge of his nose between his eyes with his scuffed knuckled hand. He was still trying to wrap his head around the fact that a. She had kept this from him and b. the chances of him being a father seeming high. Distract her? How was he supposed to do that when his head was going so crazy? What was he supposed to say when all he was thinking about was what he had just heard.
There was always the option of rough angry sex but, oddly, he really wasn't in the mood. "Do you still have that vodka?" he hated vodka but desperate times called for desperate hard liquor.

Ivy let out a laugh, but it sounded bitter. "I always have vodka." She said kissing his shoulder before she stood up and went into the kitchen. she knew she was acting weird, and he was acting weird, and she wasn't quite sure why. Ivy knew what was wrong with her, but he seemed really uneasy. He was asking for vodka after all. She had always been the hard liquor person between the two of them.
She came back with the bottle, not even bothering to bring shot glasses. Ivy opened it and look a small swig and set it down for him to take. She knew he wouldn't care at all. She knew she was going to need a hell of a lot more to feel like herself again.
ooc- what exactly do we want to happen in this thread?

Robbie was more into mass amounts of beer rather than the hard stuff, he'd drink Jack Danials but vodka was just, bla. Things were going to get awkward if something didn't happen soon. There were three options, getting waisted until he didn't care anymore, just going ahead and having crazy angry sex with her then falling asleep to stop the need to talk, or making up and excuse to leave. The latter was out of the question since it would make her think something was seriously wrong, he never left randomly. The first would probably take them both too long so he was just going to go for the second, in the mood for it or not. He was sure he could get into it once he started.
He took a long swig of the vodka and resisted pulling a discusted face before he turned so he was facing her and just kissed her, hard and rough, pushing her hair out of her face as he did.
---- er, mainly just him hearing about it and her figuring out that something up with him cause he's acting weird. Unless you have something you wanna add.

((ooc-- that sounds fine to me. So let's just let them have angry sex and then we can make another thread where he asks her if its his or whatever))
Ivy was about to reach for the bottle when his lips crushed to hers. And for once, they were utterly unwanted. Not like this. She didn't want angry sex, she wanted it to be loving. But love made her think of families and in turn children. And she couldn't possibly put into words what she thought or felt. This was the only way to go really. Getting drunk would take too long and she couldn't ask him to leave because she would never do that.
So Ivy kissed him back, she wasn't used to him tasting like vodka, which was the first thing that threw her off, but she hoped they could just do it and then she could sleep and everything would be fine in the morning.
She kissed him back as hungrly as she could manage considering she wasn't hungry for him at the moment. Maybe he could tell. Oh well. She pulled off his shirt, not wanting to waste time.

It felt weird, usually they were both so, animalistic, the chemistry and the want between them was usually unbearable but right at that moment neither of them seemed to want it, like their bodies were together and doing what they usually did but their heads were somewhere else. He knew why she was acting weird and he knew why he was. She was the only one left out of the loop but he didn't want to bring it up. Maybe he could forget over night, everything would be fine in the morning again, right?
He pulled off her shirt and held her body close to his so she could wrap her legs around him, it felt so robotic this time, so dead and meaniningless but not in the way it was meanining less with the girls he used to fuck. Meaninig less in the way it didn't even have the fun in it, the enjoyment. It was just, forced. He lifted her off the couch and to the bed collapsing onto it so he was ontop and kissed her lips and jawbones roughly but not ravonously like he usually did.

She like a puppet, like someone was just tugging on the strings to make her move. Or a doll in a music box, you opened it and there she went, it didn't change. Like she was preprogrammed. But she didn't want it, she didn't feel it. All the love that she had for Robbie and to feel utterly nothing, even more disconnect than with strangers freaked her out.
Neither of them wanted it. So why did he start it? She had no idea, but maybe it was just because this is how they solved there problems. They were going to need to learn a new method and fast.
She kissed him back removing her own pants and bra before removing his. it was so robotic, and she hated it. maybe it would feel better once he was inside her....
-----------
But it didn't feel better. It felt as hollow as ever. Like they really did hate each other, only this was so emotionless that it was more like apathy.
At least she was tired when they fell apart and she had an excuse to say nothing. This was probably the worst sex they had ever had, especially unnerving since her best sex was always with him.

Robbie had though, hoped a little, that he would get into it, enjoy it once things actually go started. But they didn't. His head was else where and there wasn't anything at all in it. Just something to do to avoid a conversation or an awkward moment. It went by in a boring, lifeless blur and ended the same way. They didn't even cuddle up the way they usually did. Not even any pillow talk or ego boosting, just kind of rolled over and went to sleep. Or acted like it.
Robbie didn't feel tired anymore. He was wide awake and his head was still racing with thoughts. He wanted to say something but didn't, all at one time. Being the coward he was, he just kept quiet. Closed his eyes and played dead, or passed out how ever you want to put it. Thigs had to be better in the morning. Right?
--------
Robbie didn't sleep much, if at all. Everytime he drifted close to sleeping his wild thoughts woke him again. He forced himself to stay in bed until 7:30 when he finally just couldn't keep himself there anymore. He needed to get out and get away from her. It was like they were magnets and someone had turned them around to the identical sides were facing each other and pushing them apart. He sat up and put his clothes on all without waking her. Once he was dressed her robotically gave her cheek a quick kiss "I told Kyle I'd help him move out today. I'll see you... later." he sounded tired, else where and emotionless like a drone as he said it. Before she could say anything else he was out of the door.

"Yeah, bye." Ivy said quietly. She'd been awake, hearing him toss and turn. She was more tired than ever, she actually felt depressed. It was hell really. And she nothing to stop him from going. She didn't know what to say to him, what was wrong.
Little did she know that later she'd have Izzy planting doubts in her mind and meet up with her child's father.
ooc- writer's block and i guess this is the end.
