If she'd had it her way, she wouldn't have been playing this character. Helena was the one who got the short end of the stick for more than half of the show. As a matter of fact, if she really had her way, they wouldn't have ever turned Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream into a ballet to begin with. Still, it was work. Besides, she did look lovely in the gauzy blue gown they'd put her in. Okay, so "gown" was an awkward term for it. The gauzy blue fabric draped over a full skirt that made it full and kept the fabric above her knees. The point shoes that adorned her feet had been dyed to match and her hair had been curled lightly. If you ignored the piles of makeup she had to wear onstage, she probably looked lovely.
As per usual, the girls were taking turns peeking through the curtain to see how full the house was. That's what Lexi said she was doing, anyway. She'd been peeking at a seat she'd had reserved for the night just in case Will decided to show up. When the lights flashed to signal five minutes before the curtains, she watched as he headed for his seat and a swarm of butterflies awoke in her stomach.
Lexi felt like she was walking on air and hardly registered the fact that the ballet was over until they called for curtains. She danced onto the stage at her turn, pirouetting and offering a graceful bow. Finally, they were allowed to clear the stage and the audience was invited to meet with them. It was, after all, the final week of the show. It was tradition that the dancers and audience interact then. Lexi would have given anything to be able to wash her face first, but she figured there wasn't much she could do about it, so she made her way toward the greenroom, content to see if Will would meet her outside.

She had gone through enough trouble to reserve him a seat. It made him feel even better that he had come. But how could he have ever passed it up? Will watched entranced as the play went on. Well, ballet, based on a play, which was sort of a strange idea. But even so.....
Lexi lit up the stage. She was even more graceful that was originally obvious to him, which was saying quite a bit. He couldn't wait to see her face when it was over, to see how she reacted when he told her how wonderful it had been.
Will went to the green room afterward, knowing Lexi should be there and when he saw her he smiled. He knew it was unreasonable to be so attached, and everything that should have been allowable to say at this stage in their relationship hardly seemed right.
"You were wonderful," he told her, rocking slightly on his heels to stop from giving her a hug. It felt like they had known each other forever. It was driving him crazy.

It was all Lexi could do to keep from tackling Will. She was still trying to convince herself that she wasn't dreaming. That he'd actually showed up. Finally, she gave up trying to act normal and practically threw herself at him, wrapping her arms around his neck and burying her face (stage makeup and all) in his chest. "You came!" she breathed, not really sure what else to say. Somehow "You're amazing," or "I missed you," or "I needed to see you," just didn't feel right. Of course, she would have meant any of them. Hell, she did mean all of them, and she was pretty sure it was evident in her voice. But she hadn't known Will long enough to make that okay yet, had she?
Blushing and, for once in her life, glad for the thick makeup that covered it, Lexi lowered herself back to her feet and offered Will a lopsided grin. "Glad you liked it, though. I guess we've been working pretty hard on it. Not that I ever was a fan of Shakespeare..." The girl pretended to stick her finger down her throat in a gagging motion before giggling and shrugging at him. "Hey, what are you doing now? I mean... I don't think we all have to stick around here or whatever... And I was thinking...." Well, what was she thinking? That she'd like to spend more time with him? Yes. That she'd like to be closer to him? Yes. That she'd like to do things with him she'd never dreamed of doing with anyone else? Well, probably. But none of those were quite suitable for the current situation. "Anyway... Do you... want to go somewhere or something?" she asked, tilting her head and regarding him with hopeful eyes.

Will was so glad to find her in his arms, that he wrapped his arms around her for a moment, holding tight, until she let go. Which of course made sense. They barely knew each other at all. But every time he saw her he was a bigger believer in love at first site. Will didn't even complain as he tried to brush off some of her makeup from his shirt.
She wanted to do something with him? "Of course I'd like to." it came out before he could stop it and say something less enthusiastic. "I assume you wouldn't want to go out dancing. We could get a drink or something." Hell was she even old enough to get a drink? She seemed old enough, but the way she acted, and the youth in her face..... he wouldn't ask. Did Lexi even drink? Even if she could? But it was late and that was all he could think of.

For the second time that day, Lexi was surprised at how easy this seemed. She grinned as Will seemed to ramble a bit about their plans. He was right. She didn't want to go dancing. "Drinks sound good. We'll save the dancing for another night," she replied, a grin reaching all the way to her eyes. "Just let me change and I'll be right back." Part of her didn't even want to take that much time, but she knew that what she was wearing wasn't really practical for going out to get drinks. Besides, if she spilled anything on this costume before the run was over, the director would kill her!
Just a few short minutes later, Lexi skipped back out of the greenroom wearing a teal dress and a pair of silver ballet flats. She twirled around happily and laced her fingers with Will's. "Let's go!" she told him, grinning again. There really was nothing she wanted more than the chance to spend a little more time with Will.

Will felt a little underdressed in jeans and a button down shirt. But he didn't care, he felt lucky. Lexi was leaving the ballet with him and probably would no matter what he was wearing. she didn't seem like the type who would care much. She looked adorable, as per usual. "You're so cute." He chuckled under his breath as she came back.
He held out his hand to take hers. It didn't seem worth pretending. They had a connection, and they were going out for drinks after he came to see her perform. She had come looking for where he worked. It was like meeting someone at a bar and then dating them. only they'd met in a cemetery, it wasn't that weird. "So is this like a date?" he asked her as they stepped outside.

Lexi couldn't hold back the blush that bloomed in her cheeks when Will called her cute. She wondered if she'd ever be able to do anything about that. Of course, the truth was that she really wouldn't mind. Blushing at Will's compliments was actually kind of a good feeling. As they walked, she couldn't keep the smile off of her face, and she hardly noticed that there was anyone else in the world. A rather unladylike laugh fell from her lips when Will asked if this was like a date. "Well, I was kind of thinking that this is a date. But if you'd rather it just be like a date, I suppose I could go for that..." Lexi grinned at him and bumped her shoulder against his lightly. "Uhm... my car or yours?" she asked, not really caring what his answer was. As long as Will was there, she'd be glad to be there as well.

Will laughed and shook his head a little. "I'd rather it was a date than like a date." He really was hanging out with Izzy too much. Since when did he say 'like' randomly, because that was how he was using it. Like a teenager. Bleh. "I took the subway, so your car." he said with a smile. New York was a pretty impractical place for a car because there was no where to park and you had to pay for garages. He lived by the subway system, or cabs if need be. But they cost an arm and a leg.
"Where do you wanna go?" there were just about a million places to get a drink in this city.

Having never really gone out very often for drinks, Lexi wasn't quite sure what to say in response to his question. "Well I'm not really an Inn sort of girl and I'm pretty sure Little Black Dress is around the corner... You know... Just in case I drink too much and feel like dancing," she told him, grinning again. "We could always walk... you know... so neither of us has to be DD..."
Without waiting for an answer, Lexi tugged Will along with her, headed around the corner to the club. They go there quickly and, rather than flashing the bouncer her ID, she simply flashed him a grin. He knew her. His girlfriend liked to come to her shows. He let the two of them in without even asking for a cover charge. Lexi didn't complain. She simply led Will into the club and headed for the bar. It wasn't as if she was an alcoholic. They'd come out for drinks, though, and she figured they might as well get them.

Will just laughed and let her tug him along to the club. He'd been a few times before, with friends and such. He didn't question the bouncers attitudes toward them, he obviously knew Lexi, which meant she came here quite a few times. Funny they had never met before they did. He sat down at the bar and just ordered himself a beer. He wasn't exactly one for hard liquor.
When the bartender came back Will gave him the money and said, "I'll pay for whatever she's having." Always the gentlemen after all. They sat quietly for a moment before he asked her a question.
"Lexi, what do you love most about dancing?" He asked, genuine wonder in his eyes as he asked.

The trouble with taking Lexi out for a drink was that she hated the flavor of alcohol. That was good if the drinks she was having had a bite to them. It would keep her from drinking too much. But if the bartender was good enough to mix things well, she would end up completely smashed. She offered Will a polite smile when he said he'd pay for what she was having. "A vodka cran, I guess," she told the bartender. Mixed drinks were also a hell of a lot more expensive than beer, and she really didn't want to be an expensive date. She wasn't about to go on a tirade about stereotypical dating issues, though.
She'd become used to mundane dates with men who acted more like boys, so Lexi was caught off guard by Will's question. What did she love most about dancing? It was a hard question. What didn't she love about dancing?! She thought about it for a couple of minutes, twirling a lock of still wavy hair around her finger. "I... don't know. I mean it's perfect, really. Like nature. There are basic rules that have to be followed. Gravity and the like... And when you work with them, bend your way through them.... It's like magic," she replied, her voice taking on a slightly whimsical tone. "And then there's the passion... Dancing lets you be so much more than what you are... It makes it alright to be a kid again... It lets you be sensual without being slutty... And it just... It makes you free. Lets you have the chance to show who you really are without being judged on it. It's like the only true justice out there..." It took her a moment to realize that she sounded a bit like a hippie and Lexi blushed a little, glad that their drinks had arrived so that she could mask her embarrassment in the alcohol. "What do you love most about writing?" It was really only fair that she pry in the same way he had.

Will gave the money to the bartender as he came back. he didn't care what her drink cost, he was extremely happy to have her there with him at all. It seemed like any moment she would disappear, a fragment too perfect for anything but imagination. And her description of dance, it made so much sense to him. You were moving in perfect harmony with everything around you, you had a spot in the world, for a moment you were part of the movement of energy in time space. That sort of thing. He wasn't much of a dancer, or athlete. Well, he took ballroom dancing at a child at his mother's behest, but he wasn't planning on doing anything with that knowledge.
When she asked him about writing he realized how difficult his question had been for her. And he laughed. "Damn, um..." he thought a moment, sipping his beer quietly.
"I like getting things on paper, makes them seem real. And for all that they say, actions speak louder than words, and pictures are worth a thousand of them. Sometimes, the right word means everything. Like saying, 'I love you'. When you mean something and say it." Will wasn't really sure what he loved about writing, he wasn't sure why. It had just always been the thing he was good at. He shifted on his stool more to face her, regarding her quietly.
"I guess I love the thought of meaning something forever, not that I think I'll be Shakespeare or anything, but the idea of linking myself to people past and ahead of me. Words won't ever get replaced, people will always need to communicate." Will said. "But I suppose if you do it right its not just communicating its art, its somebodies escape from where they are, and it doesn't take magic or drugs, just words. And you can change someone's life."
Will sat silently again, but the feeling in the air was that he wasn't finished. He hoped he wasn't boring her, or taking too long. For someone who loved writing and was usually good with words, he was pretty rotten at saying what he meant just now.
"You can write things you could never say. You learn so much about yourself in the way you explain things.... I don't know. It's just always been something I was good at, so I figured I'd do it. Maybe why I like it is it takes me away from where I am. Its my escape too. I can be anybody, anywhere."

Lexi could see that when she continued his line of questioning, he was forced to understand what a difficult question he'd asked her. Good. He should know that it wasn't an easy one! He should also realize how personal it felt. Not that she minded. Quite the opposite, actually. She was flattered at the intimacy of the conversation. She listened patiently as Will explained his thoughts and reasons for writing. He was right, and it sounded very much like his passion for writing was similar to her passion for dance. The more she found out about Will, the more she liked him and the more she felt like they were just meant to be.
Feeling a little nervous, Lexi decided the intense conversation needed a turn toward the lighthearted fun most people had when they were out for drinks. "Well I sure how you like being you and here tonight," she murmured. So much for making things more lighthearted. Her voice had been softer, more full of emotion than she'd thought it would, and she wasn't quite sure how to handle it.
When she was at a loss for words, Lexi usually ended up making a fool of herself. Apparently that wasn't going to prove any different tonight. She was only halfway through her drink and she didn't feel any effects, so she couldn't blame it on the booze. Still, a moment later, she found herself leaning toward Will and kissing him lightly. "Maybe sometime I could be an escape too?" She really did mean it innocently, though anyone else would probably think there was a hidden innuendo there.

Will smiled softly at her, taking one of her hands on the bar top. "I wouldn't want to be anywhere else." he admitted. He didn't need to escape from her at all, she was already and escape, he felt good around her, wonderful in fact. He didn't need words now. Will just needed her, and he had her. That was enough.
"Maybe sometime I could be an escape too?"
His initial reaction was to laugh, but he realized she probably had no idea how that sounded. Or maybe his mind was in the wrong place.... he just leaned in to kiss her lightly again. Words were failing him. "Maybe sometime." was all he managed to say. Then he took a small swig of his beer. Will tried to decide if he wanted to get drunk, or tipsy tonight, or if he was trying to be clear headed. She was already screwing up his brain.

Will didn't seem to react too much to her comment about being an escape, and she didn't really realize she'd said anything out of the ordinary until she caught a smirk on the bartender's face. Lexi's cheeks heated up and she finally thought about what she'd said, realizing that it could, in fact, have been considered a seductive sort of thing. Of course she would be the only one that didn't know that. Thoroughly embarrassed, she returned to her drink, finishing it a bit too quickly. She didn't ask for another, though. She liked Will. Hell, if she'd known him longer, she'd say she loved him. That being said, she wanted to remember all of the time she spent with him and, while she'd never been drunk to the point of forgetting things, she wasn't going to be taking any chances.
"Uh... do you... want to dance or something?" she asked, suddenly hating the feeling of the bartender's knowing eyes on her. Did everyone here know something she didn't?! (Yeah, they probably did, considering she was a virgin and most of the people here probably weren't.) She was just shy of asking Will if he wanted to leave, but she wasn't sure where they would go and she wasn't ready to be away from him just yet.
