Maybe it was morbid, but there's just something soothing about a cemetery. Lexi supposed there were people who would think she was insane for wandering around a cemetery by herself. It was only dusk, though, and since it wasn't dark, she wasn't really afraid. Besides, ghosts had never been a threat as far as she was concerned. She was pretty certain spirits had something better to do after death than haunt the living. So she'd come to the cemetery tonight to clear her head. She'd needed to get out. So far, all of her time in NYC was spent either in her apartment, in a dance studio, or onstage. She'd set out for a short walk int he evening air, but when she'd seen the cemetery, she really couldn't pass it up.
True, in her dress, cardigan, and simple flats, she wasn't really dressed to go traipsing about a graveyard. Still, she wasn't really the type to run back to the house for a change of clothes. She'd functioned in skirts for most of her life. She'd be fine. Besides, as her mother always said, you never know when you'll meet prince charming.
The thought of meeting prince charming in a cemetery made Lexi giggle, and she merrily twirled around, watching the fabric of her skirt swirl around her. Even the gravestones around her seemed to be in good moods. Maybe that was just the optimist in her.
Looking around, she decided to take a seat at the base of a large above ground tomb. She'd never quite understood those. Most of them were built by families that never even came to visit their dead. Lexi wasn't like that. She always felt bad for the poor souls. She let her hand trail back and forth along the marble and was just contemplating speaking to the deceased person when she heard the sound of footsteps. Her brow furrowed, but she did not jump. It had to be a person, after all. Ghosts weren't solid enough to make that sound.

In reality it was far too hot to be wearing jeans, but Will preferred them to anything else, they were just more convenient for him somehow. He'd never been one for basketball shorts, and he had a few khaki pairs, and a few denim, but it just wasn't really his style.
Church wasn't his thing either.
But his father was a minister and there wasn't much he could do about that. The British man was taking care of St Anne's, the interim rector it was called. More like a 2 year substitute preacher while they looked for a new one. Which was alright with Will, but he didn't usually spend much time with his parents anymore, he didn't feel like it, but he'd promised his father he'd go to the small mediation service that day. So William had gone to church that evening, but he couldn't make stand to stay any later than he had too, so he slipped through the back door after seeing his father.
Will walked around the back of the church, the cemetery stretching out along side him as he tried to find his way back to the street so he could go home.

Lexi's eyes turned in the direction of the sound and she let the hint of a smile play on her lips as she noticed where the sound was coming from. It was a man. A very good looking one at that. She watched him for a few moments, not wanting to disturb him if he was a mourner, which was a very good possibility given the fact that she'd decided to spend her leisure time in a cemetery. It didn't take her long to decide that he didn't seem to be in mourning at all, though.
By the time she'd decided to talk, a full blown grin had spread across her face, slight dimples showing in her cheeks and making her appear younger than she was. "I do so hope you aren't looking for lodging," she teased, standing and walking toward the man. If she was going to speak to him, she should probably get closer. Even if she did believe the spirits here were at rest, she didn't want to chance pissing them off.

Will nearly had a heart attack. She appeared out of thin air it seemed. It had been so quiet and she just moved from a grave he hadn't been able to see. He hadn't jumper or even screamed. he had simply twitched and sucked in a breath, which he released the moment he decided that this girl--woman-- was truly one of flesh and blood. He sort of believed in ghost, not like he'd make a point of saying that out loud.
"You scared me," he said with a little smile, breathing a little harder than normal thanks to nerves. Will's accent was a bit more pronounced when he was nervous. "And no," He continued, his grin widening. "I didn't come here for lodging, I'm sneaking out of the service."

Truth be told, she hadn't even paused to consider the fact that she might scare him. Lexi had always been the sort to expect that whatever she felt was what the people around her were feeling. She blushed a little when he pointed that out and her eyes moved to focus on her shoes. "Sorry about that," she mumbled. Her words hushed a little as she noticed his accent. She, like most American girls, was a sucker for a guy with an accent. Her deep brown eyes turned back up to focus on him. He had the kind of hair you just wanted to run your fingers through....
A blush scorched her cheeks again as she realized how close she'd come to delving full on into a fantasy about a man she'd quite literally just met. She tried to ignore the blush, hoping he'd do the same, and grinned at his words. "Not the type for organized religion? she asked. She'd never really been the church going type, either, so she couldn't exactly argue with his motives. "Well are you headed off to do something secretive and satanic? Or would you like some company?" She tilted her head to the side, gazing at him curiously. She wouldn't blame him for telling her to leave him alone. Lexi tended to come on a little strong sometimes and she was typically the sort of person that you either loved or hated. She was certainly hoping he wouldn't hate her.

"It's fine, really." He assured her with a tender smile. He noticed the heat rise in her cheeks, along with color. She was decidedly cute when she blushed. Will didn't mind being spooked, it certainly seemed worth it. The young woman was pretty and slender--not to mention funny and sort of out of the norm. Will liked her.
"My father's the minister, I told him I'd go. But now that I'm not living with my parents I sort avoid church, I think I like sleeping on Sundays too much." he chuckled. Will remembered growing up how he could never do much on Saturday nights because the next morning at some god awful hour he would be sitting in a hard pew in nice clothes. And once he got into college he certainly didn't go, and now he was out of school, and he went on occasion, but only if he felt like it.
"You're certainly welcome to join me," Will said with a little nod. he had absolutely no where to be and nothing to do. "I'm Will by the way."

For once in her life, Lexi wasn't finding it hard to pay attention to what was being said. She listened with real interest as Will told her about his father. She nodded in agreement when he mentioned liking to sleep on Sundays. She'd always enjoyed that as well. Then again, she'd never really known any different. "My father's an architect. We never really went to church when I was younger, so I always got to sleep on Sundays." Lexi stuck her tongue out at Will in a rather childish gesture.
A nervous chuckle escaped her lips as she waited to hear if she could join him. She didn't enjoy being turned down any more than any other girl. She just didn't show it as much. Delight, on the other hand, she showed every bit as much as other girls. A brilliant grin spread over her features, wrinkling the corners of her eyes and bringing her dimples back to attention. "I'm Lexi," she offered. It was almost mechanical for her to offer her name when someone introduced themselves. "So, Will. We'd better get out of here before your father catches us," she suggested, a slightly mischievous glint in her eye.

"Lucky you." he said with a smile. He never got to sleep in on sundays, unless he was sick or something--his mother would let him stay home. Holy week as always the worst, and christmas, he'd have to go to every service. It was like living at church. Architecture was beyond him. He had no math skills and any idea of spacial planning.
"Your dimples are adorable Lexi." he said bluntly, a grin flickering on his lips. "And yeah, because being in a cemetery is weird enough." Frankly it was giving him chills. He didn't like being around death. he always refused to write obituaries.
The next problem of course, was were did they go to? It was a week night, about 8pm, the summer sun dipping low in the sky.
Will started to walk again toward the street, assuming she was following beside him.

Lexi wasn't exactly used to being complimented so readily, and Will's comment about her dimples was enough to shut her up for a minute, her cheeks burning pink again. Did he just like to see her blush or what?? She was so caught up in her own thoughts that she didn't speak again until he began walking toward the street. Of course, she was paying plenty of attention to him and noticed when he began to move. She followed him without question for a couple of seconds. She'd never been the type to keep totally silent, though, and her lack of question didn't last long.
"Any idea where we're going?" she asked. It wasn't as if she really cared. Something inside her (which she intended to pretend wasn't there) kept telling her that she'd follow the guy no matter where he went. She was just the curious type and she'd rather know where they were headed. Besides, silence was over rated. Especially with someone you didn't know. If she didn't talk to him, he might think she wasn't interested in him at all (even if she hadn't known him long enough to actually be really interested in him) and he might never speak to her again! Yeah, she was one for jumping to conclusions. At least where guys were concerned, anyway.

Will smiled over at her as she fell into step beside him and started to speak. "No idea." he said with a little smile. he just wanted out, away from the graveyards and the death. The broken memories and fractured, worm eaten bodies deep in the core of the earth, coming up with each new flower bud. A cycle that was unavoidable, but he'd like to keep running from it.
"I figured I'd let you pick." He said noticing their feet were moving just the same, left, right, left, right. She moved gracefully, and lightly. Will could hear his own sneakers but not hers. He discreetly looked her up and down. She was muscular, but in a small way. She obviously wasn't a body builder.
"Do you dance by any chance?" he asked rather suddenly. but it had always been his job to be observant.

A tiny smile crawled across Lexi's face when Will admitted that he had no clue where they were headed. She wasn't going to argue with that. She didn't really mind at all, actually. Walking aimlessly was a wonderful way to get to know a person. It meant that you weren't distracted by whatever you were doing. Besides, did they really have to have something in mind? Sometimes life is more fun when you let adventures find you rather than seeking them out. She was about to tell him that she liked the idea of simply wandering through the city when he asked if she danced. A musical laugh fell from her lips and she smiled at him. "Only since I was eight," she confessed. She'd never realized how obvious it was that she was a dancer. Maybe she'd just been around other dancers too long to notice the signs.
As if to prove to him that she did, in fact, dance, she twirled around beside him, her skirt swirling again. Pants were depressing. They weren't nearly as fun to wear. "And you? What do you do?" she asked, falling into step with him again, a bright grin on her face.

He laughed softly as she whirled around him, her hair and skirt swaying in the light of the dying sun.
"Oh me? I'm a writer." He said with a little smile. "Well, I'm a journalist, not one of those asks hard questions, hide in bushes journalists. At least, I'm hoping to move up from that. I always wanted to write a book, but I needed to earn money."
His family had always been lower class and there wasn't anything he could really do about that. He needed to earn enough now that he could support himself. The book would come later.

"I'd read your book," Lexi commented before she even really thought about it. It was a strange outburst considering she had no idea what his novel would be about or if he even wrote in a style she could stand to read. While Lexi did enjoy reading, she was especially picky about the types of authors she liked. Then again, she was pretty sure Will wasn't capable of constructing anything she wouldn't like.
As they made their way out onto the street, Lexi looked around. There weren't a whole lot of places to aimlessly wander. "Are you a coffee drinker? I hear the English hate coffee... That they prefer tea. I always thought that was silly, but you know..." It took her a minute to realize that she was rambling, and Lexi blushed when she did come to the conclusion. Hopefully being a writer wouldn't make him opposed to dealing with her occasional rambles.

"I'll be sure to tell you if it ever gets written." Will said with a sideways smile. Maybe he'd even let her proofread or something. Assuming they became friends or something. If they became different than ships passing in the dark strangers that met for a blip in time. Even if he never saw her again, for some reason he knew he would remember her. And it was because of that that he knew not to let her slip out of his life.
William laughed. "I've lived most of my life here, and much to my very British mother's disgust, I do in fact like coffee." He told her. His mother always hated coffee, said it was too American. And his father, while American, liked tea better anyway, said it was better for him. He could still see them sitting at the table in the kitchen sipping tea and telling him it was the only sensible drink.

Lexi couldn't help but beam at the idea of being included in his future plans. If he'd been anyone else, she was pretty sure she'd have been terrified to think about being included in their future. At least this soon after meeting them. She offered him a bright smile. "I'll keep an eye out... you know. In case you forget to tell me or something..." Of course, Lexi was hoping against hope that Will wouldn't forget to tell her. That he'd think about her enough to keep her informed.
Coffee was something Lexi wasn't exactly supposed to have a ton of. To be a lead dancer, she had to keep her shape. That meant taking care not to gain weight. It was a guilty pleasure of hers, though, and she was delighted to hear that Will liked it as well. "Would you like to get some coffee with me?" she asked, for the first time truly nervous that he might turn her down.
